If you are preparing to make a commercial, you are likely to come up with a budget so that you know how much it is going to cost. However, there are some costs that can come up during post-production that you need to be prepared for. Make sure to budget for the following things.

Stock Music

One thing that you should not forget about is stock music. Unless you are planning on writing and recording the music used in your commercial, you are going to have to pay for your music. As you can imagine, you get what you pay for when it comes to stock music. There are many companies that offer cheap, royalty-free stock music, but the options may be limited. It works great for background music, but it probably won't be a good fit if you need the music to drive your commercial.

High-end stock music can be licensed in a royalty-free manner but sometimes has term licensing. This means that you pay to use the music for a limited amount of time, which may be all you need to run a commercial on TV.

Stock Photography

Plan on having an aerial shot of your city included as part of your commercial? Thankfully, you do not need to rent the equipment to get this shot on your own. It's possible to purchase stock photography and video for your commercial, which gives the photographer or videographer payment for their services.

Much like with music, there are royalty-free stock images that can be used however you want. There are also rights-managed images that can have restrictions on their use. Many rights-managed images are not allowed to be used in commercials, so make sure you understand the license before you purchase anything. This is because talent or locations may not have released the images to be used in commercials or advertising.

Talent Fees

If you are paying union talent to act in the video or read a voiceover, those talents will have additional fees that need to be paid. They are typically tied to the scale of how the commercial will be shown and how many people will see it. A larger audience could result in larger fees, such as producing a local commercial versus a national commercial.
